The desolate beauty of inland Sal is in stark contrast to the white sands of its coast. On this off-road safari, you'll explore Murdeira Bay, the Buracona lagoon, the ocean-like sands of Terra Boa and Pedra de Lume. Beyond the most popular sights, you'll also get a glimpse of local life in Palmeira and Espargos. Rodrigo, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘I've lived on Sal all my life, and I'm still fascinated by my island's colourful street art. It's a vivid reflection of our culture and our daily lives.'Starting with a pit stop at Murdeira Bay, you'll trundle off in a closed 4x4 – we're the only ones using covered off-roaders – to the fishing village of Palmeira on the west coast. Its palm tree-lined streets are dotted with mural-painted cafés and tiny shops. Rodrigo says, ‘Palmeira's kaleidoscopic – and cluttered – souvenir shops are an attraction in themselves.' Then it's on to the Buracona lagoon, famed for how it shimmers when hit by sunlight.Next, you'll witness the ocean-like sands and mirage of Terra Boa. An optical phenomenon, in which hot rays of light reflect distant objects and the sky, creates the illusion of a desert lake. Back on the road, there's a pit stop at a viewpoint, where you can enjoy an elevated panorama of Espargos, the island's capital. Wind down with a natural spa treatment in the Dead Sea-like lagoon of Pedra de Lume. Floating in one of the world's saltiest waters and inside an extinct volcano crater is a buoyant way to end the tour.

We enjoyed the trip, the history and felt it was worth the money paid, highlights for us was floating in the salt lakes as well as the engaging guides. the 4x4 we were in was very uncomfortable especially over the wheel arches, maybe it was older than the others, also one of the step up to enter the vehicle is not wide enough for a foot, every single person struggled. accidents can happen and vehicle 17 needs a wider first step to enable a stronger foothold.

The 4 hour trip was just the perfect amount of time to see the main sights of SAL. We weren’t rushing yet it didn’t drag on unnecessarily so back for lunch. The sights were quite varied so we felt “enriched” with the island and its culture. Re: Health & Safety, the “Blue Eye” could prove lethal if someone slipped down (no barriers) The rum tasting was brilliant but just a good job that no one was allergic to peanuts or anything else as there was no warning when the drinks were handed out.

The guide and driver were fantastic and knowledgeable, it was good to get some history on the island. We felt the areas we were shown were varied and relevant to the island. It would have been nice to have spent a little more time at the salt lakes but that being said it didnt detract from the overall experience. Definitely recommend this trip.

Lead guide Heber was great, he was informative, friendly and humorous, he made the trip fun. Team were generally polite and helpful. We purchased the afternoon trip but with hindsight would have gone on the morning trip if it had been made clearer that there was more chance of seeing the Blue Eye in the morning.

The whole day was a brilliant experience, the guide and the drivers were knowledgeable and fun and prefect timings, not too long or short! The only thing I’d say could be a little bit better was going around the fishing village as some of us don’t like fish so the smell wasn’t great. Cost was very good (probably a little cheap for the experience we had) and the guide gave everyone a little gift at the end of the trip, which was a lovely touch ??

Cette excursion est très bien pour découvrir le nord de l’île de Sal avec de bonnes explications. Néanmoins quelques explications lors des trajets seraient appréciables. Un arrêt dans la capitale également ! On pourrait également ajouter des visites un peu plus au sud de l’île ! Et un peu plus de confort dans les « jeep » serait le bienvenue. Merci à Clovis pour cette journée !

Eddie and our Tui driver were very passionate about Sal, we were told lots of information about the country and how the locals live. The mirage was amazing but the highlight was floating in the salt lake it’s a real experience and your skin feels fantastic afterwards. It was nice to taste the local rum. The blue eye was the icing on the cake just beautiful the colour was vivid. All the staff on all sites very friendly. It felt like in the jeep we had been on a safari very enjoyable. It’s a must.

Kind, friendly, very knowledgeable. Delivered info in a very informative friendly style. Seemed to take better care of our group compared to other guides we saw from other groups, even other Tui groups. Eg. At the blue eye cave our guide escorted everyone to have a look in turn. Offering support to those less physically able. The German speaking Tui guide was over the the ocean as her group lined up to look.

Nous avons réservé cette excursion dans le but de voir l’œil bleu et c’est la seul chose qu’on aie pas vu. Le personnel de Tui Andreas, ne nous a pas précisé qu’il était impossible de voir l’œil bleu après-midi. Le guide nous a dit que ce n’est que le matin qu’on peut le voir. Pourquoi organiser l’excursion après -midi si il est impossible de voir l’œil! Bb

A little disappointed we didnt see the blue eye. We chose the afternoon tour to give us more time in the morning. To find out you can only see the eye in the morning. If we were told this we would have done the morning tour.

I realised that it was a 4x4 trip, but didn’t know how cramped it would be. As much of the time is spent on unmade roads, the ride was really not very comfortable. Although I an prone to travel sickness, I wasn’t unwell - fortunately, but would definitely recommend anyone who does suffer with travel sickness to take something beforehand. The best part was definitely the salt lake at the end.

Guides were really good, Edilson and Edmilson. Great to see more of the island. Only complaint was when we stopped at Baracuna, it would have been good to get a cold drink, but they were not serving from the bar, bizarre! Why don't they at least have a vending machine that sells cans?

Rear door on Land Rover became insecure whilst driving along main road. Partner & gentleman opposite had to pull it closed whilst moving. Tour was sold with the inclusion of the blue eye? However this was an afternoon session leaving at 1320 hours. We were never going to be able to see the blue eye due to the time of year ( morning session only ). Reps need to be honest and inform paying customers before making decision on whether you choose morning or afternoon guide.

We feel more info should have been given by Tui rep at time of birth but king with regard to mobility restrictions of the tour. The guide was able to accommodate at last minute but would have been easier if he could have been told from the outset . Guide was hugely knowledgeable and knowledgeable and obliging in all aspects and tour was really good experience abd value for money

Wir haben im Jeep hinten sitzen müssen und konnten nicht aufrecht sitzen und konnten nicht nach draußen sehen, da die Fenster viel zu niedrig waren. Keine Halterungen zum Festhalten, schwierig auf unbefestigten Straßen. Hinten können höchstens Kinder sitzen oder sehr kleine Leute. Es ist unangenehm, nicht zu sehen, wohin man fährt.

The tour itself was good and the guides provided a good knowledge on the island and it's history. There was no point in the blue eye being included in the tour as you physically can't see it in the evening so It was literally a black hole. The advertiment for the trip leads you to presume you'll be seated comfortably within a 4 by 4 but I was shoved in the very back of the land rover on benches facing one another with my partner and 2 others. I'm 6 foot 3 so I was very uncomfortable.

We saw the blue eye and spent time in a fishing village where we had grouge and coffee. Everyone was so friendly and made us feel welcome. Meine Partnerin hatte eine Rücken Operation und wir mussten hinten Platz nehmen ich wollte die Tour gar nicht antreten und dann habe ich mich noch mit dem Fahrer eingelassen weil er das Fenster noch ein wenig geschlossen hatte und somit den ganzen Staub im Auto hatten.

Half day trip was very good and our guide, Stef, was very informative and knowledgeable. Our only complaint was to do with the blue eye. As our trip was in the afternoon, our guide explained that it would be too late to see the blue in the blue eye as the sun would have passed by. We therefore saw a black eye (cave). We should have been told when we booked that we wouldn't be able to see the blue eye in the afternoon, or the trip should have started with the blue eye instead ending with it.

Unsere Reiseleiterin war mega. Witzig und charmant und hat alles sehr gut erklärt. Die Tour war bestens organisiert und unser Fahrer war super. Wir wurden zu keiner Zeit in irgendwelche Souvenir-Shops genötigt. Das war wunderbar, das kennen wir auch anders. Danke für die tollen Einblicke in die Insel!
