De legende gaat dat in de vallei van Mirna reuzen woonden die allemaal op een heuveltop een gehucht bouwden. Op deze tour ga je er twee bekijken. De groene heuvels van Istrië zijn van een mythische schoonheid. En de sprookjesachtige dorpen Grožnjan en Oprtalj passen perfect in dit plaatje. Ivana, een van onze deskundige lokale gidsen, zegt: "Grožnjan had in het midden van de 20e eeuw te kampen met ontvolking. Dus werden kunstenaars en muzikanten aangemoedigd om de leegstaande huizen te komen gebruiken als atelier. Tegenwoordig zijn er ongeveer 40 ateliers en een populair zomermuziekfestival. Beide dorpen hebben ook een grote Italiaanse gemeenschap.”Je avontuur begint met een schilderachtige rit door de heuvels van Istrië naar Grožnjan - de kunstenaarskolonie op een heuvelrug. Je dwaalt door de smalle straten met mooie stenen huizen en stuit op oude kerken en paleizen. En in de vele galerieën en winkels kun je kunstzinnige souvenirs op de kop tikken, zoals handgemaakte sieraden, prenten, textiel en beeldende kunst.Dan is het tijd voor een pauze en proef je lokale Istrische delicatessen, wijn en olijfolie in een wijnmakerij. Je sluit de dag af in het vredige Oprtalj. Dit dorp heeft een lange geschiedenis die teruggaat tot de Romeinse tijd. De sporen van dit rijke verleden vind je terug in historische gebouwen zoals de Venetiaanse loggia en de 16e-eeuwse Sint-Joriskerk op de top van de heuvel die over de stad uitkijkt. Je wandelt samen met je gids door de steile stenen stegen in Oprtalj. En je vergaapt je aan het uitzicht op het platteland.

We joined at Pula which meant we were on the bus for 2hrs and 10 minutes before reaching the first destination were we had 1hr (not long enough to look round and get a drink) the second stop was not worth it and we had 20 minutes.

Guide was very pleasant woman that spoke good English. The two villages were easily walked in the free time. Interesting buildings & flea market. Clean & tidy places like the rest of the area. The tasting was very good, welcoming hosts supplying free wine & snacks and the shop was reasonably priced

A very good trip giving a different perspective on the recent history of Croatia and the real lives and lived experiences of the people of Istria . The places visited were beautiful. The visit to the winery and the hospitality shown was outstanding. Finally a word to express our appreciation of one of the best tour guides we have had the experience to travel with. The 1st village full of artists ?? was beautiful. Would have preferred more time there as the 2nd village experience was a waste of time, nothing was open due to it being too early in the season, it was a little short sighted to know this, but still visit when more time could have been spent in the 1st one. The vineyard visited was very interesting. But overall loved the day out, the knowledge of the tour guide was very engaging 'Christina'. The views and the countryside are breathtaking ??

Perfect tour, really enjoyed it and the guide Tin was fantastic, so friendly and professional, really made the trip. Maybe little longer at first stop so had time for both a coffee and to look in artist shops, maybe 30 minutes more. Other than that perfect, tasting stop with family was excellent

We would have preferred to have been picked up and dropped off at our hotel rather than walk to the bus stop as my husband has poor mobility. Guests at other hotels on the way were picked up at their hotels. Our guide Boban was excellent and we enjoyed the villages and the tastings experience very much.

We didn’t seem to have a lot of free time in the 1st village , the wine tasting was good and informative about the area. It didn’t bother us but the walking o cobble stones could be a problem to less mobile guests. It is mentioned but not explained properly, overall a very good trip.

The streets were stoney and parts were quite step for several of the group of approx 22 . Nobody was told of this when booking . No fliers in the hotel had the approx length ( in hrs) of the of each excursion, only half or full days.

The trip was excellent and the guide knowledgeable. The two villages were extremely nice, but we would have liked a little more free time to explore the shops and market place, especially in Groznjan which was beautiful and needed to be explored. The tasting was good value and the chance to taste local food and wine was great. Considering the travel time to the first stop and the equally long journey back this should be extended to a full day to allow time to explor the wonderful villages.

This tour did not turn out as expected. But, the weather did not help. We had to wade through rivers of water to get to the pick up location. The trip was explained as the Guide would walk you around cobbled streets in the locations. There was no lunch. Only dry bread with some bits of cheese and salami at the wine tasting. We were on and off the bus continually. Most of the time at either end of the trip was picking up/dropping off. Trip should state challenging for those with mobility issues.

Weather conditions could have been better, torrential rain from start to finish. Not everyone came prepared including ourselves, but the driver gave me his own umbrella, wonderful gesture. The places we visited and the tour guides words made up for the weather. To finish this excursion with a visit to a family run winery was icing on the cake.

Bus komt een half uur te laat. Bij het oude dorp zou de bus om 1 uur komen dat werd over half 2. Bij de wijn proeverij stond iets te eten op tafel, dat was voor je er erg in had op.

Overall the trip was good but was not suitable for people with walking difficulties which should have been pointed out. Also spent 5 hours travelling in coach including multiple pickups and drop-offs. Would not have gone if we'd been told this and other guests said the same

It is not a half day it took 2 and a half hours to pick us all up in different locations I now u want to get your money's worth but it was a bit extreme !! We got picked up at 9 we did not get back till 6 that is not a half day .the tour guide got picked up at another location so we did not know what was going on .

Not happy at having to go off course 3 times to pick up people from laybys along the motorway and 1 person being they guide. The tge smell in reverse on our return meaning the coach driver was in charge part journey. Too long at the truffle tasting which was hard to taste due to too many people in shop. Unable to understand guide, guide started to discuss things before people got to him so missed info. Not impressed.

I adored Groznjan which was enchanting, and also liked Oprtali. As a non drinker the wine was not for me, but they did provide some food and a glass of water. Would probably still have preferred to combine the two villages with Motovun and had time for a proper lunch, and skipped the tastings. I'm surprised you don't do a trip to the castles at Pazin or Svetvincenet (the later only reachable by pricy taxi) - that would be real value added.

Didn’t like waiting to be transferred from minibus to coach. Had to wait for 2other minibuses to arrive. Maybe that cut our time in the villages. The “ghost village”- not much to see and didn’t have enough time there. Art village very interesting and enjoyable but would have liked more time there. Wine tasting was excellent as was the food offered to the group perhaps could have cut a bit of time off there. The guide was very good.

Pick up from hotels was well organised but far to long with pick ups. Was 1.5 hours before we met the main bus .Beautifull first stop at Grojnan but was under sold by the quide who have no information about this pretty village but really happy when we left because of the beauty of the place. Next stop at deserted village felt like a gap filler and was unnecessary. The last stop was excellent at the wine tasting. The family had put on a fantastic spread. Wine was excellent. Well done,

Great day out and chance to see some of the local area. The groznan village very relaxing wandering around the narrow streets, visiting the galleries etc. opportunity to grab a coffee and take in the views. Shorter stop at second village with less to see but nonetheless enjoyable and photo opportunities. The wine tasting and food was excellent.

It’s a pretty tour seeing the old buildings, but you are standing in the sun whilst the guide tells you everything. It’s a very informative tour for historical facts but a little too detailed for my liking. The truffle tasting was amazing as well as the wine tasting. There were several young kids on the tour and they bored out of their minds. Something for parents to think about.

We felt the tour was sold as a wine and olive tasting experience, however the experience was of a very low standard, and very minimal tasting of products were offered, but the emphasis seemed to be the selling of the products presented. The tour of the hilltop villages was very interesting and informative. But unfortunately the wine tasting experience let the trip down.

My wife and I would probably not have enjoyed it so much if we had been one of the first to be picked up. Had that been the case we would have been on the coach far too long. We also had to confirm the pick up point, stated as the bus stop?? We had assumed it to be the hotel which it was. The bus stop was a quarter of a mile away. we suggest you change the paperwork.

Lovely trip really one village which is lived in . More time in first village very beautiful so much history etc . The other very quiet and empty but shows how life is in these areas . Wine tasting lovely with spread of cheeses etc . You need good foot wear not for people unsteady on their feet .

Our tireless tour guide, Tin, was very knowledgable about the Istrian region was able to explain the history of it and how recent changes to Croatia had affected the villages that we visited and that gave a real insight and understanding the area. The food and wine tasting, hosted by the Coslovich family was also excellent and gave the tour group a good opportunity to socialise. Overall a very good tour, with nothing I can criticise.

It was an interesting trip and the villages were very pretty in their different ways. However it is billed as a half day so we assumed we would be back in time for a late lunch but we’re back at 6pm. There were limited opportunities to get food on the way so would advise taking something to eat or the tour to cut out the extra photo stops to make time for lunch or end earlier

Our guide, Elvis, had a wealth of knowledge of Istrian culture, history and language. The tour was so well informed we were always learning new things. The towns and villages we visited were stunning and the wine tasting and food was excellent. A great trip and highly recommended to anyone visiting Istria. Note to TUI - please sort out the directions for collection. We were sent to the wrong place. Fortunately we were able to contact the guide ourselves and were picked up.
