For a small island, Sal boasts a wealth of sights. This tour covers nearly every inch of it, taking in Kite Beach, Murdeira Bay, Buracona lagoon, Pedra de Lume salt flats and the towns of Palmeira and Espargos. Maria, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The salt pans at Pedra de Lume are the result of a natural accident. The evaporation ponds occupy the crater of an extinct volcano that's always had a supply of seawater because the base of the crater sits below sea level.'Kick off with a trip to the world-renowned Kite Beach, named because it's a firm favourite with kite surfers who fill the horizon with their colourful sails. Then it's down the coast to Murdeira Bay, where a village has sprung up around the cove at the heart of the rocky coastal nature reserve. The palm-lined streets and bright mural walls of the village of Palmeira await next, before we head north to the ‘blue eye' of Buracona lagoon and the mirage plains of Terra Boa.After stopping at a family-run restaurant for a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients, we'll explore the island capital, Espargos. Here, you'll see vibrant street art all over town, expressing aspects of the local culture and society. From here, you'll head east to Pedra de Lume salt flats for a float – Cape Verde's answer to the Dead Sea. Before wrapping up the day, you'll visit serene Viveiros Botanical Gardens and have a cocktail at Ponta Preta beach club. A great excursion that combines scenery, flora and fauna, villages and gastronomy.

Great trip, the perfect length of time to be away from the hotel We saw all the main sights seeing points, all stops were the perfect length of time - we didn’t feel rushed or that we were hanging around. The tour took in all the main attractions in Sal, we were not rushed at any of our stops and our driver and guide (think his name was Cloves) was amazing, the best guide we have ever had on any excursion.

Very good day out to see Sal. Our guide Edmindon was really good & was very informative. Our driver was very helpful. Seeing the mirage, blue eye, stops in little villages & floating in the salt lake, this day out is worth every penny. Learning about the cape verdean people is quite an eye opener. So nice people.

The only part I did not enjoy, was the sanctuary. It smelt terrible and one of the donkeys has really bad sores on all its legs. It may have been just rescued, but it looked very distressed. Should have been laced somewhere quiet.

Reps at the hotel don't make it clear but Internet does.. this trip may be difficult for some people due to the uneven and especially at the salt mine there is quite a bit of walk. However we had great time 'wolf' the guide and the driver were very good. Enjoyed it all apart from the fish for lunch

Stephan was obviously very knowledgeable & enjoyed relating the history of Sal & the Cape Verde islands & made the whole trip very interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our guide Nino and our driver Freddie were brilliant. Nino was very knowledgable and he was a cheerful and friendly guide. The slope down to the salt lake is quite long and fairly steep. The weather was intermittent clouds so some of the places were not as good as they could have been. They were still interesting though. All in all it was worth it. Great day out and a sing song at the end. Thanks Nino and Freddie.

The trip was made because of the guide who was knowledgeable and fun. The most disappointing part was the mediocre meal, it was disappointing that it was taken in a cafeteria type soulless restaurant and the food wasn’t good standard, the dessert consisted of ‘tinned’ fruit salad. Was it worth the £70 sadly I don’t think so. We have decided not to book any other trips now

Not overly keen on visiting fishing harbour, but visit to kite beach, blue eye, and salt lake was very good. Could possibly do with slightly longer at botanical gardens. Heber and 'China' were great. Very informative and entertaining. Sal is a tiny island, so this tour gives you the main areas very succinctly. You get to see a little bit of the 'real' Sal, which is quite eye opening. As it is with other people, the overall experience is slightly dependant on the group, but ours was fabulous. The blue eye is also slightly seasonal with how much of the eye you see. But this is a tour well worth doing. Highly recommend doing it.

Our guide, Heaba, was fun, friendly and knowledgeable. We were picked up on time and taken in a comfortable, air conditioned coach across the island. We felt that the day was very good value for money and gave us a good taste of the island life. The meal was ok and it was a lovely touch to finish the tour at the beach bar for a cocktail. The coach driver took good care and was constantly making sure that the bus stayed clean whenever we stopped. Heaba was great, thank you.

Loved the salt lake and blue hole – any excuse to get in the water! Savouring the local liqueur in Palmeira was also a highlight – as were the perspective trick photos we took at the mirage. Having also taken part in the lemon sharks experience, I would maybe look into substituting this for kite beach (despite the appeal residing in having a specialist in marine biology). Undoubted USP, though, was our delight of a tour guide, Nino. All smiles and devoted to giving us a good time! Just the best.

We really enjoyed the whole experience. Our tour guide Pempi Wolf was very helpful and informative. The mini bus arrived well on time. The day was very relaxed considering we did do much. Our only slight disappointment was where we were seated in the restaurant for lunch, which was in a back room with no windows next to the toilet! Nevertheless the food, the service and staff were very good. Would recommend this tour. All in our group enjoyed it.

It was possibly the best excursion we've been on. Our guide Stef was brilliant and very informative but never boring. We were surprised with how much was included in the tour for such a relatively small island. One of the highlights wasn't really part of the tour. The coach stopped, Stef got out and came back in with a small turtle. We proceeded to Kite beach where the turtle managed to find it's way into the sea. Brilliant!! Everything was first rate and we would highly recommend going.

All sightseeing places were good and better than expected. Like the fact that we were hopping from one to the other as there is not much to do to stay very long. However I don't feel I have seen much of the capital or the fishing town at all. I was wondering the point of the lunch. It did not feel like a restaurant, there was no "local" feel and the food was no special either. This part could be improved.

Nino the guide was worth the fee on his own! Very funny, very knowledgeable, very proud to show us around… he is a lovely chap and we hope he has a successful and prosperous life!!

Clovis our guide was fabulous. He was knowledgeable and great fun. He really took care of the whole party. I liked the fact that we were a small group as it felt like a more personal trip. The lunch was delicious and I was delighted that I was able to have a lovely vegetarian option as opposed to the usual omelette offered on such trips. The only thing I would have liked is to have had some time for shopping in Palmeira. It’s just a small quibble as the day was great.
