What to expect
Your journey begins at the Cisnădioara Fortified Church, a main attraction also known as Michelsberg Fortress. This 12th-century edifice is one of the oldest Romanesque-style churches in Transylvania, serving both religious and defensive purposes during medieval times. Constructed from stone, the church retains its Romanesque features. Its hilltop location offers a commanding view of the surrounding area. Over time, this church has become a symbol of the Saxon community that once inhabited the region, standing today as an important cultural and historical monument.Next, you'll explore the beautifully preserved Cisnădie Fortified Church. Known for its defensive towers and clock tower, this church provides insight into the Saxon heritage and history of fortified villages in the region. Originally built in the 12th century as a Romanesque basilica, it was fortified in the 15th century to protect the community from invasions. Notably, it houses one of the first mechanical clocks in Transylvania, installed in the 14th century. Finally, your journey takes you along the Transfăgărășan Road, or DN7C. This is one of Romania's most famous and scenic roads, cutting through the Făgăraș Mountains, the highest mountain range in the Carpathians. The road was constructed as a strategic military route in the 1970s under Nicolae Ceaușescu. This part of your journey promises awe-inspiring views and a deeper understanding of Romania's rich history.
