What to expect
Starting in Auckland, travel though the picturesque coastal region of the Bay of Plenty and on to the famous geothermal wonderland of Rotorua where Māori culture abounds. Step inside the village and be transported into another world! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. A journey into the heart of Māori Culture... an experience you will never forget! Delivered with genuine heart and soul, Tamaki Māori Village offers a window in to a truly riveting, spirited way of life.Upon arrival, warriors emerge from the forest by canoe to perform the powhiri, an ancient ceremony of welcome that allows visitors’ safe passage into the village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. After a fearsome challenge by a group of warriors and the exchange of a peace offering, you will be warmly greeted and brought onto the marae (meeting house area). Immerse yourself in the traditional Māori way of life. As you wander beneath the stunning forest canopy, the pre-European village the village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities.

Know in advance:
Children between 5-7 years old are also recommended to be in a booster seat for their safety. Children below 8 years old are required to travel in a child safety car seat
Tours operate in all weather conditions
A good fitness level is recommended, however tours are suitable for people of all ages and average fitness. The scenic walks are short and optional. Please let your guide know during check in if you have any fitness concerns.
You must be able to climb and descend stairs and walk on unpaved or uneven terrain
Given the nature of our Māori kai (cuisine), it is not possible to cater to all dietary needs. While gluten-free requirements can be accommodated, there is not a coeliac approved kitchen. Vegetarian dietary requests can be catered, however vegan requirements can not be catered

Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for the conditions, walking shoes, Sun protection, jacket/warm layer, & any essential personal items

Bring plenty of warm clothing. The village temperature drops markedly in the evening, bone-chilling icy. Please also bring a jersey or coat if it is cold
Bring a camera or a phone with camera capability, as this is the perfect place to get some great experiences photos
