What to expect
Mother Nature's two greatest gifts to eastern Sicily were the spectacular Alcantara Gorge and Europe's largest active volcano, Mt Etna. On this full day excursion, you'll discover these two natural wonders – paddling in the water of the gorge and climbing up to 2,900 metres in the volcano in a variety of transport modes. Your adventure starts with a drive to the Alcantara Gorge, where you'll have free time – about 90 minutes – to take in the natural beauty and paddle in its crystalline pools. Its 50-metre-high black lava walls are made of layer upon layer of slabs in wavy and tubular patterns. Surrounded by lots of lush vegetation, it's an amazing spot.After you've dried off, it's on to Mt Etna. Most of the journey up the volcano will be by coach. You'll then transfer to a Unimog – a kind of 4x4 minibus - and a guided walk will take you to the Sapienza refuge at 1,900 metres above sea level. From here you'll head up to 2,900 metres above sea level for even better views.

Prima chauffeur, zeer goede meertalige gids (Engels en Duits), Het verliep volgens planning! Eerst de Etna en daarna de Alcantara was een fijne volgorde.

Super trip! We boften met goed weer, zeker voor naar de top van de Etna. Goede reisleider. Fabio gaf veel achtergrondinformatie en regelde alles heel goed voor ons. Sprak goed engels en duits.

De avond voor de excursie was er een eruptie op de Etna waardoor we alleen de kabelbaan konden gebruiken. De 4 x 4 en de gids werden geannuleerd die dag. Dat was jammer, maar alsnog heel veel moois gezien en gehoord van de reisleiding. Zou het zeker doen als je er bent!

Geweldige gids die heel veel verteld heeft onderweg over geschiedenis gewoontes eten en activiteiten! Echt wat een prachtige belevenis in de kloof maar vooral op de Etna.

De gids Fabio was top gaf veel informatie was vriendelijk en behulpzaam in een woord top. Het bezoek aan de kloof had ons inziens wel half uur langer gemogen. Plus punt was wel dat we vroeg waren en voor de menigte waren. Als je de Etna tot 2900 mtr wil bezoeken is er bijna geen gelegenheid om te eten en beneden nog het eea te bekijken.

Geweldige ervaring allebei. Gids was een klein te dik mannetje, die niet ver mee kon lopen. In de bus gaf hij goede uitleg, we vonden hem niet echt vriendelijk. Hij had een dubbele naam Juan .... if zoiets. Bij de kloof van Alcantara moesten we het na summiere uitleg zelf uitzoeken. De andere bus had Fabio als gids en we zijn bij de kloof bij hem aangesloten. Echt jammer deze gids.

Fabio de tourgids was erg leuk! Heel spontaan en erg enthousiast. Vond het wel jammer dat je extra moest betalen voor de kloof. Was echt prachtig de kloof en de Etna.

Alcantara: keuze uit 3 toegangstickets in diverse prijsklassen. Wij kozen voor duurste waarmee je ook door het bovenliggende park kon wandelen. Dat was de moeite waard. Alleen met lift naar strand ( middelste prijs) zouden we erg karig hebben gevonden. Bij Etna was alles perfect geregeld met bus en kabelbaan naar boven waar steeds prima gidsen stonden te wachten die in goed Engels tekst en uitleg gaven. Gids tijdens gehele dag onderweg in bus was perfect.

De bestemming, de Etna, was prachtig. De extra kosten bij de Gole dalcantara vonden we een tegenvaller omdat de prijs al hoog is. De prijs voor het bezoek aan de Gole vonden we ook hoog voor hetgeen je ervoor krijgt: even langs het water lopen met uitzicht op (bijzondere) rotspartij.
