What to expect

They call Essaouira the ‘Jewel of the Atlantic' for a reason. It's a whitewashed maze famous for its Medina, fishing village vibe and flocks of kite surfers. You'll explore the harbour, meander through the UNESCO-listed medina and catch up on its bohemian arts scenes. Ibrahim, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘An Essaouira born and bred Amazigh, my family moved when I was 14. Now, when I return, I'm filled with nostalgia as I tour the alleys I used to play football in with my Arab and Jewish friends. Essaouira has always been a multicultural melting pot.'You'll get the...

Transport good. Guide : we only understood one word in each sentence. He told us nothing about anything , just several times. what itinerary was. Lunch was fine. Inexplicably long stop halfway back to hotel - no apology. Could not recommend.

Ok so I researched this trip beforehand. I was happy to visit the argan oil co-op en route but I was looking forward to the advertised circa 3 hours of free time in essouria to explore. This did not happen. It took a total of 4 hours to get there including stop offs and 3 hours to get back. On arrival we proceeded upon an unadvertised 2 hour walking guided tour before lunch. Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful but this isn’t what I wanted from the day. We were given 1 hour of free time.

Great

The journey time is the best part of three hours, but with multiple stops en route (including seeing goats in argan trees). The guide of the Medina went on a bit and we were shown rather random things (eg an aubergine), but a good two hours of free time to explore the harbour and relax on the beach.

Great

The guide was very informative and his subject matter was very interesting. Morocco as a whole is very much geared to the French speaking tourist. Compared to other countries that I have visited the Moroccan people don’t seem as welcoming towards British tourists, with that said it’s still worth visiting. The mini bus ride to and from Essaouira really showed you how poor and underdeveloped Morocco really is.

Great

The journey was not anywhere near as bad as other review make out thanks to a stop on route at a cafe, and an Argan Oil business. The latter was disappointing because it was more a sales pitch by the family who didn’t leave you alone to browse their produce in peace. The guide didn’t tell us about the game of thrones in Essaouira which was strange. Tip, skip the lunch and use that to increase your free time and explore the medina. Far more peaceful and quieter than Marrakech! Cheaper too :)

Great

The stops on the journey to essaouira were great but the town itself was only OK. We would have liked a bit more time to ourselves in essaouira to take a look around the shops but overall we enjoyed it
